COVID-19 Update 5.20.2020

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well and healthy! I wanted to give you a brief update about where things stand regarding St. Luke’s opening up in any way for public gatherings.

First, it is important to note that as Episcopalians, any decision when it comes to public worship ultimately rests in the hands of our bishop. Bishop Miller has put together a task force to help him make an informed decision about how best to move forward with public worship. Guided by science and the Holy Spirit, we are seeking to proceed in a responsible way. In truth, we are all learning how to live with COVID-19 until an effective treatment or vaccine is implemented. In doing so, our guiding value is risk mitigation. How do we move forward in a way that minimizes the risk of spreading this highly contagious and potentially deadly virus? This is why the bishop has put together a task force as so many details must be carefully addressed in order to mitigate risk as much as possible.

Bishop Miller plans to update the diocese in the next week or two about the progress of this task force and what that means for individual parishes. As soon as I hear something, I will pass that along to you.

In the meantime, know again how grateful I am for all you are doing to check in on each other, as well as engage in our many virtual offerings here at St. Luke’s. Also know how grateful I am for your continued financial support! In addition to your financial support and the good news of the PPP loan from the Federal Government, I am also happy to inform you that the Daycare is planning to reopen in June. With regular rent coming in, the loan, and your support, St. Luke’s is currently very stable financially. This is terrific news, and it places us on a footing to continue to adapt, pivot, and grow through these uncharted times! We could not be in this position without your support! Thank you so much!

Again, I will keep you updated as details on any sort of re-opening of the church emerges.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and each other!

Fr. Jason
